What is the Problem?

Orofacial Myofunctional Dysfunctions (OMDs) are conditions involving abnormal muscle function in the face, mouth, and throat. They can affect speech, swallowing, breathing, and facial development. Symptoms include tongue thrusting, improper or low tongue posture, open mouth position, dental alignment issues, speech problems, swallowing difficulties, and sleep-related concerns like snoring, mouth breathing or sleep apnea. Recognizing these symptoms is important as they can impact oral health and overall well-being. Seeking diagnosis and treatment for OMDs is crucial for improving orofacial function.

What can we do to Help?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a specialized treatment approach that focuses on improving the function and coordination of the muscles in the face, mouth, and throat. It involves exercises and techniques designed to retrain and strengthen these muscles, addressing issues such as improper tongue posture, swallowing difficulties, and breathing problems. OMT aims to promote proper muscle function, optimize oral health, and enhance overall well-being. With personalized treatment plans and the guidance of trained therapists, individuals undergoing OMT can experience improvements in their orofacial function, leading to better speech articulation, swallowing coordination, breathing habits, and overall oral health.
